Coldplay...Viva la Vida...Okay people...seriously-this is INSANE!
I have spent the first hour of my morning listening to this song. I heard it a few days ago advertised on tv during the Stanley Cup playoffs. I am on a mission to try and decipher the lyrics. I love, love, love the song, but I can't crack the code. And it appears that I'm not the only one who wants to know. INQUIRING MINDS want to know. What's it all about, Alphie?
Coldplay Viva la Vida lyrics:
I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning I sweep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own
I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemy's eyes
Listen as the crowd would sing:
"Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!"
One minute I held the key
Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand
I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
Once you go there was never, never an honest word
That was when I ruled the world
It was the wicked and wild wind
Blew down the doors to let me in.
Shattered windows and the sound of drums
People couldn't believe what I'd become
Revolutionaries waitFor my head on a silver plate
Just a puppet on a lonely string
Oh who would ever want to be king?
I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
I know Saint Peter will call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world
I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
I know Saint Peter will call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world
...So I dedicated my entire post today, my contemplative, thoughtful mind, to figuring out the meaning of a freakin' song?
Yes, you heard me right. Thank you for bearing with me and my NEED TO KNOW moment.
I'm going to dig into it and see what I come up with. I am convinced it has something to do with Christianity and I'd like to think it's a good message, not a bad one. I'll letcha know what I find.
Anyone have any ideas of their own?
...in the meantime, I'm gonna crank up the speakers and clean something.
