why do I blog?

My youngest son asked me one day, "Mom, why do you have a blog?"

I told him it's because I want to capture the small simple things that happen in life that I know I will forget one day. The moment is now. If I jot it down in cyberspace, one day we all can look back on my "memoirs" and see growth emerging from the words in my blog. (let's hope, anyways).

As a mother of five kids pretty close in age, I just never had the luxury of sitting down, writing in a baby book or a journal. My days were a blur of diapers and laundry and playdoh, snacktimes and storytimes. Like it or not...I was that absorbed in my children's lives as a stay at home mom (sahm). When I look back on those years, it's all a blur. I'm so thankful that my kids remind me of all the fun things we used to do...because I have no documentation of it all.

I'm not gonna lie...I kind of miss that lady. The one who used to sew matching outfits for the kids at Christmas, make homemade playdoh, have children's craft time and mom's group. Where oh where did she go?
I can recall a time when we were so broke we couldn't afford to replace our coffee maker. I swear for an entire year I made coffee by boiling water on the stove and pouring it over a strainer with a coffee filter and coffee in it. (mind you, I even recycled the coffee filters to save money). One time our toaster broke so I had to make toast in the oven for months before I found a cheap one to replace it...the microwave broke so we went without one for an entire year (can you imagine life without a microwave?) only to discover it was a $2 part that Pat had to replace. I recycled my ziplock bags and used cloth napkins and cloth diapers and learned (as a young mother) how to live on a tight budget before recycling was the "in thing"...but I digress. Those are all random blatherings to point out the fact that I need to blog these moments now...so we don't forget where we've been.

So let me ask you...why do you blog?

Hi Connie. I blog for the same reason you blog. I want to remember all the fun and cute things that we do regularly. Also, I will add that I want to encourage ladies, and I want and feel I need that same godly encouragement. I want to glorify God through my blog too. I never want to have too large an audience, however, because I enjoy writing back when people write to me. If I get popular and have let's say 1,000 people a day looking at my blog, I could never get to know anyone or touch their lives or let them touch mine. So, I will take all that the Lord sends, but I don't want too many. I hope you enjoy your Wednesday. Bless you, Kathi Wow, you are one frugal mother, and I commend you for being so careful during those tough times.

Funny you should ask. I am writing my 400th post that will be published sometime early next week and I am addressing that very same topic. ;) By the way, you can have your blog turned into a book at blurb.com. My neighbor did hers last year and it is gorgeous.
